Ramon-I stumbled across your web site while researching Cape Dutch architecture and the architecture of Sir Herbert Baker and Sir Edwin Lutyens. Seems there are not many pictures of their work on the web eventhough I have found a few on your site. If you have any more I'd like to see them. Best to you. I admire your ambitition and resourcefulness. --Robert

Hi Thomas,
Best of luck in your plans and studies. It appears you have a good plan and goals set. Sounds impressive, to perform plans of study in various countries. Again, something most American (USA) students do not do. I think with the internet, for whatever reason, it had become that English is the "universal" internet language. Whew, good for me, as it is my first language. I am glad the internet did not evolve as a French, German, or Dutch majority language! :-)
Keep on reading! I am glad your teacher recognized this book as a good learning experience. Perhaps you or your teacher can arrange for Ramon to come to class someday, and discuss his travels, book, English learnings, etc. :-) I am sure Ramon could present a great classroom session with pictures and stories on his travels.
Cheers,
Joan

Dear Joan.
Thanks for you message. Today i finished Ramon's book. I would have the same problems with my english as Ramon had. ( i think) But its only the writhing, with talking the leanguage i don't have big problems.
The book i read for school is for the subject Dutch. And then literature. Dutch is subdivide in Grammaticaal and literature. I asked my teacher if I were permitted to read this book. First she said no, but after I took here to our schoollibrary, and showt here the website, she directly said yes. Also my teacher wanted know more about it.
I'm in my examyear now. The highschool here is subdivided in 3 levels. First off all you have the VMBO, this is the lowest of the three. preparatory middle vocational education. I takes 4 years. The second(witch I do) calls HAVO. Higher general vocational education. And then the 3th one is VWO. vocational scientific education. That takes 6 years.
Since the first year I have english, then I was a the age of 11-12. Also in the first year i started with French. In the second year i started with German. At the 4th class you have to choose with witch class you want to do your exam. I choosed for German, so French fell off. So i got only 3 languages left. Dutch (very dificult), German and English.
Thats how it works here in the Netherlands.
After my Highschool i go study. I know what i wanted to do, and that is: international Technology management. The study takes 4 years, and every year in a other country:D. Th first year is in the north of holland, the second year its in Finland, and the 3th year in Germany, and the final year, your can choose at you own where you wanna to go. I think I go to Spain or Italy, but I also want to the USA. I certainly looking forward to it.
Greetings. Thomas

Hello Thomas,
Your English was great. Congrats for making the attempt. Just so you know, when Ramon started his project and daily updates here, we often corrected his English, at his request, so he could learn. Over the time of the project his English writing improved dramatically. It was a learning experience for all us us - we learned about his travels and places, he learned to write better in English. :-) Even he probably looks back at some early reports in English and recognizes the advances he has made.
So never fear about writing on an English site when English is your second language. Most of us in the USA are in awe of the people in the rest of the world who speak and write even some English, as we are multi-language "challenged" (meaning, we are not multi-lingual!). We are pretty much untrained and uneducated in languages other than some mandatory introductory classes in High School. It used to be required in college, but is no longer required. There are very few people in the USA who can claim "multi-lingual"!
Be proud of what you wrote in English, and for the effort. And keep on reading!
You mentioned you were reading this book for school? Is the class reading it as a project together?
Cheers,
Joan

First of all I hope I can write this message in english.
I really don't like reading, but i started for school (i'm just 17 years old) reading your book. And i have to say, just afther 3 pages i really liked it. At this moment i'm at page 216 just afther a week. My mom and dad are in shock! I liked the parts when you where in Paris and Australia. Your idea was/is great, but i don't think i have to tell you that, because you have heard it enough, I think. I hope i get a just as clever idea in the future.
I have only one thing to say and that is when your ever, but really ever, go agian somewhere, with this project (i don't think so but just hope it) take me with you please

Hi Ramon and All,
It's been a little over a month and I was wondering how the book sales and promotions were going for you Ramon? I'd order it, but I can't read Dutch. :-) I'm for sure awaiting the English version someday.
I'm still in LMSFAD withdrawal, and really miss the travel reports, stories, and photos every few days, each week, for a couple of years. Also miss the chat sections with the followers. It was a great time. I spent many a Saturday or Sunday afternoon just reading on LMSFAD, learning so much about places, people, travels, and the supporters and fans here.
Hope all is well with you Ramon, and with all the supporters, followers and the regulars here we all got to know so well. I miss you all!!!!!!
Cheers,
Joan

Hi Ramon
Tonight, I was just surfing the net looking for some accommodation in Port Macquarie (New South Wales, Australia). I found a link of your travels to Port Macquarie from Port Stephens.
Needless to say I've spent the last hour reading about your travels and enjoying your pictures of your travel.
It sounded like a fantastic adventure, but I can also understand how it must have been a relief to stop.
I look forward to letmestayforaday making it's way to Australia in English, otherwise, I'll just spend more hours pouring over the internet.
I hope you realise all of your dreams and more by publishing your book and best wishes for the future.

You have had a most interesting time in Canada, Ramon, and it is so good to read your reports and the history you have learned of this amazing country. I hope you'll keep your website open a long long time--I found it many months ago after one of your first telephone interviews with CJAD's Anthony--glad you met him in person. Have a fantastic life!
